Mark at Mama Roux

Mama Roux, 96 Broadway, Newburgh

It's the night before Thanksgiving. What could be better than a fantastic meal and great cocktails at Newburgh's fine Mama Roux? C'mon over for some (mostly) wholesome family entertainment before you have to go deal with your actual family.

SongSmith is back before a live audience for the first time since January 2020! I'll be in the hosting chair for a great evening with Brooklyn's Charming Disaster. Inspired by the gothic humor of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, the noir storytelling of Raymond Chandler, the murder ballads of the Americana tradition, and the dramatic flair of the cabaret, they write songs that tell stories, using two voices to explore dark narratives and characters with a playfully macabre sensibility. Tickets for both the live show and the live stream are available at the SongSmith website. Click the link for details.

Mark @ Mama's

Mama Roux, 96 Broadway, Newburgh

Mama Roux is my happy place. The food is amazing, the drinks are great, the vibe is super groovy and the people are lovely. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather gig right now. I've got some new songs in my increasingly eclectic repertoire, so c'mon down and hang with us!

Mama Roux's coming back with outdoor service, and I'll be there too. Expect fun, food, drinks, community, and a whole range of tunes. And if it rains, well, we'll see if that stops us. Support local business and live music.

SongSmith Season 2, Episode 2: Will Stratton

SongSmith Season 2, Episode 2: Will Stratton

I return to the hosting chair in March to interview Will Stratton, an American songwriter and guitarist living in Beacon, New York. His sixth album was 2017's Rosewood Almanac, which was released by the UK record label Bella Union, received favorable notices from Pitchfork and the British music press, and coincided with tours in the United Kingdom and Europe alongside artists like The Weather Station, Courtney Marie Andrews, John Smith, and Holly Macve. His seventh album, The Changing Wilderness, is slated for release in late 2020.

I'll be doing a couple laid-back solo sets of originals, blues, and selected covers. The food and the vibe at Mama Roux are excellent, and there's no cover, so come on down!
